A 10–15 minute ritual for calm confidence and luminous skin before a big moment.
Big events like prom, parties, weddings, performances, can bring a rush of anticipation. When the nervous system speeds up, breath becomes shallow, the jaw tightens, and the mind starts racing.
This ritual gently slows the body and softens the face so you can walk into the room feeling radiant, steady, and fully yourself.
The List
• A gentle face cleanser or cleansing balm
• A facial oil or lightweight moisturizer
• A facial mist or chilled spoon
• A journal or notes app
• A hair brush
• The Pre-Event Glow Playlist*
* Curated by Maison Poeta ritual editor Breanne
The Ritual
1. Set the Mood
Before beginning your hair and makeup, create a small pocket of calm.
Dim the lights slightly, put on your pre-event playlist, and take a slow breath in.
Let this moment signal the beginning of the evening.
2. Clear the Mind
Take one minute to write down anything circling in your mind.
It might sound like:
What if tonight feels awkward
What if I don’t look right
What if something goes wrong
Writing the thoughts down allows your mind to release them.
Close the journal and set it aside.
3. Slow the Breath
Take three rounds of 4-7-8 breathing:
• Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
• Hold for 7 seconds
• Exhale slowly for 8 seconds
Longer exhales gently slow the nervous system and reduce the adrenaline that often comes before social events.
4. Cleanse + Reset
Wash your face slowly with a gentle cleanser or cleansing balm.
Massage the skin in small circles around the temples, cheeks, and jaw.
Warm water and touch help signal safety to the nervous system while refreshing the skin before makeup.
5. Bring Circulation Back to the Skin
Press two or three drops of facial oil or moisturizer into the skin.
Use slow upward strokes along the cheeks and jawline.
Facial massage increases circulation and softens small areas of tension so the skin appears naturally brighter.
6. Cool + Awaken
Mist the face lightly or press a cool spoon beneath the eyes and along the cheekbones.
Cooling the skin helps reduce puffiness and brings a fresh, awake look to the face.
7. Brush + Center
Slowly brush or comb your hair.
Let the movement be calm and rhythmic while the music continues playing.
Take one final breath and imagine yourself walking into the evening feeling steady, confident, and radiant.
Now you’re ready to begin getting dressed and preparing for the night.
Why It Works
Pre-event excitement activates the body’s sympathetic nervous system, often creating shallow breathing, facial tension, and mental overthinking.
This ritual gently restores balance by combining:
• Expressive writing to release anxious thoughts
• Extended breathing to slow the heart rate
• Warm water and facial massage to relax facial muscles
• Cooling to reduce puffiness and refresh the skin
• Music and rhythmic brushing to create grounding sensory input
By calming the nervous system first, the body naturally returns to a state where skin looks brighter and presence feels more relaxed.
Radiance begins before the makeup goes on.
